Weekend fun part 22; Kenny Keil’s; rappers who need to be seen in a comic book

Slick Rick

Kenny Keil :
“Let’s kick things off with a no-brainer, shall we?
Slick Rick is the greatest storyteller in all of hip hop.
He’s also British, kind of.
And everyone knows the greatest comic book writers
are British (Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman, to name a couple) .
Therefore, it stands to reason that
a Slick Rick comic book would have to be pretty damn good.
He’s already got the iconic costume,
a compelling origin story,
and a slew of adventures on (and off) wax.”

Kool Keith

Kenny Keil :
“To say Kool Keith is already like
a comic book character would be an understatement.
The guy’s got enough personas to fill up Avengers Mansion.
Imagine Dr Octagon,
Black Elvis,
Mr. Gerbik and
Poppa Large
teaming up across time and space to solve capers.
Or commit them. Either way, that’s a comic that needs to exist.”

Too $hort

Kenny Keil :
“Sure, this one would have to be kept behind
the register in a brown paper bag,
but who doesn’t love those freaky tales that he tells so well?”

Boots Riley (of The Coup)

Kenny Keil :
“No comic collection is complete without
a stash of subversive underground comix,
and what better MC to fit the bill than Boots?
Seeing his material adapted into comic form
would totally be worth the FBI watch list
you’d get put on for reading ‘Tales From The Coup’.”
